A Franklin veterinary office received recognition from a local insurance agency on Tuesday.

Blake Lambert and Patrick Baggett, agency principals with Boxwood Insurance Group, presented a Best in Business plaque to the staff of Battleground Hospital for Animals recognizing their service to the community.

Derby Jones, publisher of the Williamson Herald, read a statement from Kathy Rothaug, a Battleground client who nominated the hospital for the award.

“Dr. Jim [Russell] has a wonderful manner in dealing with anxious pet parents and has always given me sound, sensible advice,” Jones read.

Cassie Jones, publisher of Southern Exposure Magazine and Derby’s wife, shared how Battleground staff treated their dog, Duke, during his old age.

“The compassion you showed and the gentleness you showed our family, we’ve never experienced anything like it,” she said. “When we heard you were getting this award, we thought, ‘What a deserving practice.’”

Lambert said Boxwood launched the monthly Best in Business Award last year as a show of solidarity and appreciation for small businesses.

“We wanted to recognize businesses that are still locally owned and how much people still enjoy those relationships and being involved,” he said. “We’re passionate about the community and we want to give back.”

Russell’s brother, Dr. Bob Russell, said the hospital, which marks its 25th anniversary this year, has succeeded by focusing on quality service to their patients, whether they have four legs or two.

“We try to be consistent with what we do,” he said. “We’re treating people and treating animals the best we can.”
