Coco Jones took home the hardware for Best New Artist at the 2023 BET Awards Sunday night (June 25).
Jones, 25, emotionally made her way to the stage to accept her award. Tears of joy flowed as the audience cheered for the “ICU” singer.” Hers was the first award handed out at the awards ceremony.
Her mom and a few other relatives were in the crowd joining in on the emotional acceptance speech.
“Thank you so much BET. I remember when I did 106 & Park with y’all when I was 16, in them tight little skinny jeans and sneakers. It’s been a long journey,” she said.

She continued to show gratitude, including her team who stuck by her side when she “didn’t have anything going for myself.”
“I just want to thank God so much for keeping me when I didn’t understand. And for all of my black girls: we do have to fight a little harder to get what we deserve, but don’t stop fighting even when it doesn’t make sense and you’re not sure how you’re going to get out of those circumstances, keep pushing because we are deserving of great things and I’m going to continue to give yall my everything.
In March 2023, Jones was named BET’s Amplified Artist of the month. In November 2022, the actress and songwriter released her debut extended play album, What I Didn’t Tell You.
