GILLETTE, Wyo. — A city employee was recognized before the Gillette City Council on Tuesday after winning a national award for his work on a local government podcast.
Jason Gray, who hosts the city podcast Let’s Talk Gillette, was recently presented the Audio Programming Access Center Professional Award through the Hometown Media Awards put on by the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media.
According to City Public Affairs Director Jennifer Toscana, the awards were established to honor community media, radio and cable programs distributed on public, educational and governmental access channels.
Over 1,000 entries were submitted during the Hometown Media Awards, each of which was judged by a panel of industry experts who evaluated each submission on several factors, Toscana said.
According to the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media, awards are presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats and move viewers to experience television in a different way.
There were over 100 winners announced during the recent Hometown Media Awards, per the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media.
“Jason does a really fabulous job and we are very proud of him and his work,” Toscana said on Aug. 1.
