Corona student wins award at 2023 National History Day – The Press-Enterprise

A Corona student has returned from the National History Day competition with a second-place award.

Ava George, who attends Corona Fundamental Intermediate School, competed in the national finals at College Park, Maryland from June  10 to 15. She won second place in the Junior Individual Performance category and is considered a National History Day Champion, a news release states.

This year’s theme was “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.” More than half a million students across the world entered projects in one of five categories:  documentary, exhibit, paper, performance or website, the release states.

Ava’s performance was titled “Virginia Hall: Crossing Gender Frontiers in Espionage and Intelligence” on the first woman to establish a career at the CIA and the only one to win the Distinguished Service Cross.

Ava’s teacher was Brandon Smith.
