Sitara Attaie is an Afghan Hollywood actress, linguist and choreographer. Sitara received her BFA in English Literature from The University of Groningen, Associates Degree in Teacher Training certificate from Hanze Hoge School and her certificate in Journalism from Hoge School van Utrecht. She is formally trained as an actor at the Lee Strasberg and The Actor's Workshop in Hollywood; and has worked on television shows such as: Homeland, Stumptown, True Blood and The X-Files. With proficiency in Dari, Hindi, Dutch, German and French she has also worked as a Voice-actor for major productions such as:The Fault In Our Stars, Jumanji, Charlie's Angels, Spider-man and Vice.
During her early years in Europe, Sitara won several Dutch National Dance championships (Kunstbende) and talent-shows as a Choreographer and toured all across Europe with the educational live band ‘The Jungle Warriors’ who played World Music. She has choreographed several commercials, music videos and Bollywood movie songs. She also partook in different projects on Dutch television (VARA's 12X12, SBS6's Missen) and worked as a freelance Journalist for various media (Spunk.nl, Cultuur Scouts Magazine). Sitara also contributed to the final editing of ‘Afghaanse Spreekwoorden geïllustreerd’ which is a Dutch-Dari edition of ‘Afghan Proverbs Illustrated’. As a young adult Sitara has modeled for a variety of fashion brands after she won beauty pageants in The Netherlands and Turkey.
Sitara is extremely passionate about the rights of women and children in Afghanistan. She is involved with a number of charities and wishes to use her platform as a Hollywood actress to raise awareness around issues regarding women & children’s rights and health. The lack of representation of Afghan women in the media haunted Sitara since she was young. She is adamant to change that through her art and represent the strength and courage of Afghan women on the big screen internationally.
