DR. DAVID EDWARDS

WELLSBURG — Dr. David G. Edwards, who practiced dentistry in Wellsburg for more than 50 years, has received the highest honor conferred by the West Virginia Dental Association, the Dr. Robert B. Bridgeman Distinguished Dentist Award.

The award was established in honor of Bridgeman, a New Martinsville dentist known for excellence in operative dentistry, mentoring of other dentists and community service.

It’s given to dentists who have demonstrated leadership qualities, professionalism and commitment to providing outstanding oral health care.

During his long career, Edwards has been a member of the West Virginia Dental Association, serving as treasurer for several years; Wheeling District Dental Society, for which he was president and component delegate to the WVDA; and American Dental Association.

He also is a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, Hollenback Operative Dentistry Seminar and Academy of General Dentistry.

Edwards holds honorary fellowships with the American and International Colleges of Dentistry, Pierre Fauchard Academy and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honorary.

He continues to serve on the West Virginia Board of Dentistry, of which he’s been a member for 14 years and president for three terms. He also is a national board examiner for the Southern Regional Testing Agency and the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments.

Edwards has supported dental education through his role, for nine years at West Liberty University, as an assistant clinical professor, a position he’s continued to hold following his retirement.

In 2013, he received the West Virginia University School of Dentistry Distinguished Alumnus Award and Pierre Fauchard Outstanding Dentist Award.
