69th National Film Awards 2023: Best Actress
And, it was a tie! The Best Actress award was given to Alia Bhatt for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and Kriti Sanon for ‘Mimi’.
National Film Awards Winners: Best Actor
The fan-favourite star made it to the top. Allu Arjun, who become the national crush after the release of ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, has now won the Best Actor award too for the movie.

Director Nikhil Mahajan was honoured with the Best Direction award for his Marathi movie ‘Godavari’ (The Holy Water). The film is predominantly about a cynical man looking for an escape from the chaos around him.

While Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, Vishnu Mohan got the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director for his Malayalam movie ‘Meppadiyan’.

R Madhavan’s directorial debut – ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’. The film is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was wrongly accused of espionage and arrested in 1994 on charges of selling sensitive rocket technology secrets to foreign countries.

National Film Award Updates: ‘Shershaah’ Makes A Mark
Director Vishnu Varadhan’s Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani-starrer ‘Shershaah’ got the special jury award for a feature film. It’s the story of PVC awardee Indian soldier Capt. Vikram Batra, whose bravery and unflinching courage in chasing the Pakistani soldiers out of Indian territory contributed immensely to India finally winning the Kargil War in 1999.

69th National Film Awards Updates: Best Non-Feature Film
The Garhwali and Hindi movie ‘Ek Tha Gaon’ bagged the Best Non-Feature Film Award. It has been produced and directed by Srishti Lakhera. It is about two women who are the only living residents of a village on the foothills of the Himalayas and are torn between the idea of abandoning their home or staying connected to their roots. It was screened at the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF) this year.
Best Film Critic
Purushothama Charyulu won the Best Film Critic award at the 69th National Film Awards 2023. He is known for his insightful and nuanced analysis of Indian cinema across languages and genres.

Details Of The Entries
The awards are being given in 31 categories in feature film, 24 categories in non-feature film and three categories in best writing in Indian cinema. For 2021, 280 feature films in 28 languages, 158 non-feature entries in 23 languages and films in 14 languages other than those specified in the eighth schedule of the Constitution were also received. For the best writing in cinema, 22 books and 11 film critics were in competition.

Madhya Pradesh won the ‘Most Film Friendly State’ award while Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh got a Special Mention. ‘The Longest Kiss’ by Kishwar Desai won Best Book on Cinema for the year while the Malayalam book ‘MT Anunahvangalude Pusthakam’ and Odia book ‘Kali Paine Kalira Cinema’ won a special mention.
