And, it was a tie! The Best Actress award was given to Alia Bhatt for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and Kriti Sanon for ‘Mimi’.

Vikram Batra, whose bravery and unflinching courage in chasing the Pakistani soldiers out of Indian territory contributed immensely to India finally winning the Kargil War in 1999.

Vicky Kaushal’s biographical historical drama ‘Sardar Udham’ bags the Best Hindi Film award. The movie is directed by Shoojit Sircar and stars Vicky in the titular role of Sardar Udham Singh, a revolutionary freedom fighter from India who is known for assassinating Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, in retaliation for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Besides these, the movie also bagged other awards:

  • Best Audiography – to Sinoy Joseph alongside movies ‘Jhilli’ and ‘Chavittu’

The Garhwali and Hindi movie ‘Ek Tha Gaon’ bagged the Best Non-Feature Film Award. It has been produced and directed by Srishti Lakhera. It is about two women who are the only living residents of a village on the foothills of the Himalayas and are torn between the idea of abandoning their home or staying connected to their roots. It was screened at the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF) this year.

The awards are being given in 31 categories in feature film, 24 categories in non-feature film and three categories in best writing in Indian cinema. For 2021, 280 feature films in 28 languages, 158 non-feature entries in 23 languages and films in 14 languages other than those specified in the eighth schedule of the Constitution were also received. For the best writing in cinema, 22 books and 11 film critics were in competition.
