The BAFTA Film Awards are underway at London’s Royal Festival Hall, where the best films and performances of the year — according to the British Academy — will be revealed.
“Oppenheimer” leads the nominations with 13, followed by “Poor Things” with 11. Both are up for best film, while “Oppenheimer” also received nods for adapted screenplay, director for Christopher Nolan, supporting actress for Emily Blunt, supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. and lead actor for Cillian Murphy. “Poor Things” is also competing for adapted screenplay, in addition to leading actress for Emma Stone and outstanding British film.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Zone of Interest” follow with nine nominations. “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers” and “Maestro” are also in the race with seven nods each.
Hosted by “Doctor Who” star David Tennant, Sunday night’s ceremony will also include a performance by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose song “Murder on the Dancefloor” soundtracked a racy scene in “Saltburn.”

The winner of BAFTA’s prestigious Rising Star award will also be announced, and is the only category voted on the public. In the running this year are Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Sophie Wilde.
